I am afraid fellows that there is only one way to clean brass and copper that is so easy and quick - no need to fuss around for days - just get in to it and do it . Use good rubber gloves with a straight solution of SPIRITS OF SALTS / hydrochloric acid  , PAINT IT ON WITH A BRUSH AND LEAVE FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN RUB OFF UNDER RUNNING WATER WITH VERY FINE STEEL WOOL . The steel wool will react and heat up and burn if not under water . Heavy soiled brass may require two or more goes - its easy and quick and whats more it works !
