LUCAS MK1 magneto
« on: 14 January, 2012, 08:41:28 PM »
Can any one show me a picture of a Lucas MK1 maggie as fitted to Lister "D"s between 1931 and 1937? I have been trolling the net but as yet have not been very successful. ....cheers Phil

Hasn't any one seen one or knows what it looks like???? Prior to 1931 the engine was fitted with a ML magneto and from about half way through 1937 they were then fitted with a Lucas RS1. The ML magneto syndicate was purchased by Smiths Industries in 1919 which was then sold to Joseph Lucas in 1930 or early 1931. When Lister had used up their stock of ML magnetos they  fully changed over to Lucas MK1 by July 1931. I have been led to believe that the Lucas MK1 was similar in appearance to the ML but not having seen one I do not know. Can any body shed any light on the subject for me?........ Cheers ..Phil

Hello Phil.
I have a manual for the Mk1 magneto here in PDF format.
If you PM me your email address I'll send it on.
Apparently they were on A,B,D and F type engines.

Here is a link to some pictures of the Lucas Mk1 but off a motorcycle.
From what I can gather they were popular on motorcycles and the like.
It also seems they were fairly scarce on stationary engines and it has been a spirited discussion as to what exactly they are ie ML or Lucas.

Hello Phil.
There's no envelope under the loco.
There's one under Wal fishing though. Send one to me and I'll reply.
Cheers Scott
