LISTER CS?
« on: 12 February, 2012, 07:43:43 AM »
This followed us home yesterday. Not sure about model and I would appreciated any and all information about it. Obviously a Lister and the numbers are as follows CS 361341, 8hp @ 1200rpm. It also has another number SPEC. 230DM4367 or it is 23CDM4367. Originally hooked to a generator but it is now long gone.
Motor turns over and I have freed up the decompression lever and now I am soaking the fuel pump as the rack was not movine and the plunger at the bottom of the pump that is pushed by the cam follower is stuck as well. The rack is able to be moved back & forth with some help but is still stiff. I was told that this engine is a dry sump set up and it does have some flexible hoses behind the flywheel at the crankshaft end and at the moment they are connected together.
I need a crank handle if someone can help and also a radiator cap. Can anyone give me an idea of the age of this engine and any workshop manuals that may be of help?
Would it be right that it is a dry sump and if so what size sump does it need.
Cheers, John & Dee. Coopernook. NSW.

Can anyone give me some idea of the correct way to strip down the fuel pump for cleaning so I dont do any damage in the process. I have removed the pipe fitting at the top and found a small spring that sits on what may be the injector needle????
At the bottom there is a wire circlip that can be remaoved but as the plunger is stuck up inside by about and inch I can't get it out as yet. The plunger also has 2 small shallow holes in it and when I put a pair of pointy nose pliers in them I can rotate the plunger around quite easily but not pull it down towards the wire circlip. I have also noticed a small screw on the side of the pump with a small hole with something in it and I am guessing that this should be left alone.
Can someone help me out so I don't do something stupid like break it.
Cheers.

Gobbadog- get the part no of the pump and contact Steve Hutson at Oz-Listeroid -not far from you, you may be surprised how cheap a new one is.

Thank you so much for all that help. It also may clear up the SPEC. # which I listed and not being able to clearly read what the letters in the number were. It seems to me that the letters may be CDM and this indicates the mode as being 'CD' and maybe the 'M' is marine?
Thanks again, very much.

Have had NO luck in finding a crank handle so far. I have tried Oz-Listeroids, Steve was very interested in what we have but was unable to help us. Also contacted Vintage Lister engines and same result, no crank handle.
Apparently the problem is the diameter of the crank shaft. It is 2 1/4" OD most are either 2" or slightly smaller. Is there another engine that has a crank handle the same size or does anyone have this size handle they wish to sell?
Cheers

There are a couple of threads running on the American "Smokstak" site under Vintage Diesel Engines, detailing how to construct handles to suit.   Combustor.
