Recall early 1970's in the East Kimberley when Buntines hauled cattle to Wyndham Meatworks. Noel himself had a very fast single drive Mack that hauled two single deck cow crates at insane speeds. His empty rig pulled out of town just ahead of me one afternoon, headed East to Katherine. Thought I would keep up with him in my Landcruiser, but when he was still pulling away from me as I approached 80 miles per hour, I was quite content to see his smoke cloud disappear into the distance.
Law enforcement was non existant in the North those days, the truckies made their own rules and somehow most of them survived. Did see the occasional trailer rollover at times though. Combustor.
