I. B. C. Farm Pumper
« on: 31 December, 2008, 06:28:48 pm »
Hi All
I have been trying to find out more about this farm pumper,
All I have is this add and can't see if there was an IBC somewhere on the engine like there is on their pumps
So has anybody come across a farm pumper that can be identified as an IBC pumper, and the question did they make it?

Hi Ian,
The engines look a lot like Fuller & Johnson engines.  (Pic A65, your common garden variety type farm pumper & A66 is similar to the  F&J Multimotor)
Could  the IBC be one of the many "Re-badged" F&J's that are out there????
Sorry I have no info on these engines.

Hi jayvee
All of these farm pumpers started with the F&J (Fuller & Johnson) which was imported to Australia and it looks like the Buzzacott & Roseberry were the first Australian made copies of the F&J, then Langwill, Nevertire, Challenge (sold by Sothern Cross some debate over who made it),Southern Cross pumper and IBC are there any others?
So far I have never heard of an IBC pumper being found, maybe the hade no permanent ID on them and have been missed identified as a Buzzacott or Roseberry as the latter models only hade a transfer on them and if that is missing there is no way of telling what it is a Buzzacott or Roseberry

There is probably no technical reason why IBC could not have built this engine, we just don't know if they did.
Looking through my research notes, I found a 20 year old article debating whether Langwill Bros & Davies built their farm pumpers or not. It looks like we haven't done much serious research in that time!!

Not sure if this helps or not but about 15 years ago I came accros a small horizontal engine in a pile of rocks that was pushed up to form part of contour bank.  It had a brass IBC badge.   From what I can recall it looked similar to a fuller and johnson?  It was smashed up pretty bad so didn't drag it home.
cheers

Hi Matt
IBC made lots of machinery but I also suspect that put their on tag on sometimes most likely acting as agents and as Eric said no technical reason why IBC could not have built this engine’ but did they make it.
I have not as yet come across a horizontal engine with IBC on it and again did they make it as a copy or rebadged it

Oh that is going to through a spanner in the works
I don't think they made it
You should put it on that other site as someone putting their name tag on another make of engine

Hello Ian.
I may have gathered some other information in regards to the IBC pump unit.
As you know I have one and it's number is 53388. After researching the same engine number through the Buzacott train of thought it turns out that that number is a Buzacott Wolseley farm pumper sold in 1951. Co-incidence?

The pumpers are 1 1/2hp at the reduction pulley aren't they.
Na. I could not be bothered.

Hello Ian.
Another spanner?

Could someone tell me if the tank on the pumper in this picture like an early Fuller Johnson tank?

Cheers Scott

Hello all
Great pictures of the Fuller Johnson's chaps. Thanks.

I think the picture in the Rosebery ad has a fair bit of artistic license in it. Is that the right term?
I tried to find out the age of the ad but did not get anywhere. It came with a bit of literature I picked up a few weeks ago.
I also noticed the IBC pumper is slightly less costly. Different time period perhaps?

Cheers Scott

A nice picture of one of the said pumping motors from WA,  indeed a mechanical marvel.
