Title: Gold Cheetah
Post by: andyh7722 on 12 September, 2016, 10:49:23 am
Hi Guy's
I have an old Gold Cheetah I would like to restore. Either to running condition if possible or at least to original looking condition so I can return it to it's previous owner for display.
Any info would be gratefully recieved.
I have seen the beautifully restored red one on here but am wondering if there are any others around?
Anyone have spares they'd be willing to part with? or complete ish engines for sale.

I am an outboard mechanic, have been since '79. I am currently rebuilding a 65 four cylinder mercury for a client and will post some pictures if there is some interest. My profilc picture is the ignition from the 65.

 regards
  Andy

Missing ignition laminations. Could be the death of her?

G'day Andy,

It all looks to be complete and original other than the tiller, which was originally cast alloy and easily broken.

As for parts, your best bets are ebay, gumtree and the swap meets. Key search words are; Boundy Industries, Boundy Manufacturing, Boundy BMS10, Lawn Cub, Lawn Scout, Lawn Patrol and of course Gold Cheetah. Engines can be picked up for low cost, typically $20-$30 or so.

What you will find however is that the crank for the mower engine and the outboard are different. So you will need to think about transferring the laminations or crank. A little bit of extra work but all doable.

Boundy Manufacturing (Springvale Victoria) produced the three above-mentioned lawn mowers as well as the Gold Cheetah outboard. The outboard actually got its name from the engine, which was originally called a Gold Cheetah and later renamed BMS10.

The coil is made by ROFO, and they do come up from time to time (NOS) on ebay also. In fact I purchased one a few months ago.

Let me know what other parts you might need and I'll see what I can do to help. Also, if you need the artwork to reproduce the decals, I can help with that as well.

Regards,
Spiro

G'Day Spiro and thanks!

I was hoping to hear from you.

I'll keep you informed on here as to progress.... which may be slow. That I suspect is the name of the game with these things when chasing rare parts!
I hope you saw my post on your DD Evinrude thread about the guy's I came across on Facebook?

 Thanks again

  Andy

G'Day GILLA22, the thread is 4 years old and I haven't noticed the original poster here for quite some time. AusAnzani visits occassionally and replies to this thread when he is in the loop.
Good luck with your restoration.
