We had some around here too but not as devastating as those at Rappville. One started only around 5 klms away from home here and followed Cattai Creek north a bit but mainly south through Crowdy Bay National Park. Some families I know had the fire go right around them and the bush fire brigades successfully fought off the fire only to loose a nursery shed but no homes. A local caravan park was evacuated for 5 -6 hours while the fire cam up to them and jumped the road and burnt beside them but no loss of homes or vans.
Helicopters and fixed winged air craft have done and are still doing a great job and looks like they have a good hold on it at the moment but we do have gusty winds at the moment.
The amount of support to the firies has been amazing from small bussinesses sending food and drink as well as 2 of the big 3 supermarkets sending drinks and snacks for them to enjoy if and when they get a break. Something that we should not forget is that all these people are volunteers. Some give up their day job and loose pay to keep us safe and others are there because they feel they can and do make a difference.
A huge thanks to all these people goes out from Dee & I and also to those bussinesses that have contributed to help them.
