Kew City Council Steam Roller whereabouts ??
« on: 05 February, 2009, 01:14:41 pm »
When I was a little tacker I lived in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, I was often late home from school and only lived a couple of hundred metres from it.  The thing that caught my attention was the beautiful Steam Roller working on road repairs. I would always stop and admire it for  many many  minutes at a time, ( an hour or so my mum used to say ). I can still remember the shing brass and  fly wheels, chains  etc. A fascinating tool for those men on the roads at that time. Can anyone of you advise me if that Roller is still in commission or preservation.  Of course back then in 1946 it was like brand new. It sure would be nice to see it again some day.
cheers,   John
