Wrong date. It has Mirrlees Tait and Watson 1883 cast into the bottom of the crosshead guide above where the oil stains appear on the foundation in the attached photo if I remember correctly. It seems to have been cleaned up a bit since I took this photo some years ago.  On the information board it says the engine and mill were designed to crush seventeen tons of cane per hour, which is correct. With improved feeding arrangements over the years the same engine and mill engine and mill were putting through about 110 tons of cane an hour when it was taken out of service. This is quite an improvement over its designed capacity!

This engine and a couple more of the same make, design and similar ages were still very much in use in the A side milling train together with a couple of larger, later engines when I started working at Victoria Mill in 1955.
