Rare table engine
« on: 31 December, 2008, 01:51:05 pm »

Many years ago I photographed this engine in a paddock where it must have worked. An unusual feature is the very long crankshaft, which had its outrigger bearing mounted on a tree. I do not know the make.

This is what the complete setup looked like. I often wonder if it is still there or if it has been rescued.

Happy New Year to you too, Wayne.

These photos were taken way back BC - before colour. You will have noticed that they are silent as well.

Very interesting.

I've been looking at a photo of a table engine by Maudslay, Sons & Field. That also had a 'keystone' shape cast into the top of the arches of the table, and one of them had the maker's nameplate on it. However there seem to be no other obvious detail similarities.

Is it possible to read anything on the nameplate in the original photo, Eric?

G'day gents,
Powerhouse Museum in Sydney have a Maudslay table engine which they date to 1885.
I hope to be visiting in the near future and shall try to remember to photograph.

regards

eric,
I have seen a boiler identical to that one in the picture and the wedderburn Engine Park.
I dunno if its off that exact engine but its defenetly a spitting image of it.

Cheers, Will
