IBC Plunger pump
« on: 26 February, 2017, 11:33:41 am »
Hello all
Here is a little pump I've been working on. It'll make another display item for the little engines at rallies.
I think the IBC plunger pumps are a little unusual as compared to the typical pumps with leather buckets.
Anyways, most of the work is done. Bushes have been made, plunger has been refaced and all I need to do now is clean the greaser up and install it, clean up the other non return valve, make a trolley and figure out a display for the water it'll pump.
The idler wheel works!!! Very functional.  ;D

Cheers Scott

Very nice looking pump Scotty. Look forward to what unusual apparatus you come up with to demonstrate the flow of water

Hi Scott

Nice Job on the pump !!!
Went up the back and had a look in the big blue roof shed, there is 2 in my pump "pile" the same model. One looks like it has been set up as a skim milk pump and is fitted with a vee pulley and a large gal funnel on the intake, sadly both pumps are missing the cap on the gear end but would still be restore-able or good for spares.
Both were going for scrap metal !! -(bloody vandals)

Cheers Justin

Hello all
Thanks for the praise chaps. It's amasing how much work a simple bloody pump needs to get it running well again. Gees they can cop a flogging during their working lives.
This pump was originally green but the shed is full of green stuff and the red paint tin was at the front of the shelf so....red it is then Scotty.

I have an idea for a display Cobba. Playing things close to my chest just in case they fail. And they probably will.
A clue is Oscar.  ;D

I have not found too much on the net about these IBC plunger pumps Justin.
I assumed they would have been handy as a milk pump as they're very simplistic and very easy to clean. A bucket of hot water down the funnel and jobs done. Your pump set up as a milk pump should be in pretty good nick as they were only used a little bit morning and night.
I have another plunger pump the same as this. It's also missing the rear door. It would be easy to lose one as they only rely on gravity to stay on there. Maybe we could get some cast out of brass by the fella demonstrating at some rallies around the traps? Brass would be nice....and easy.  At least we all know where there is one for casting purposes ;)

I'm away for 2-3 weeks so things are on hold for the time been. Why does life get in the way of interesting things?
For those who are thinking.....he's gone...beauty...time for a sticky beak in the shed. The vicious attack dogs are still there. Below is a picture of them waiting for their tea. A couple of Jehovah's walking up the street. Mmmm, Jehovah shanks.
If you get past them, the cranky possums will sort you out.

Cheers Scott

Hello Ian.
Wow. The difference a word makes to google. Milk instead of plunger.
Oh, ye of little faith. It'll work on water. Failing that, there's a dairy farm up the road.  ;D

Thanks for the information matey. It's well appreciated.
Cheers Scott

Hi Ian,

You did a great job restoring that pump. Do you have a trade background? I don't and shows by the number of started restorations that still haven't been finished. I've got a very unusual pump that I'm sure you could get working and look as good as that IBC. Pity you are all the way up in Townsville. It's a Metters made NuFrend design with a large upside down T shaped pressure vessel on top or the smaller one with the cylinder shaped pressure vessel. Do you get down to Brisbane much?

Cheers

Mark

Looks like I stuffed up big time. It wasn't Ian's pump, it was Scott's pump and he is at the metropolis known as Warwick, an afternoon's drive away from Ipswich. Very interesting.
