Hello from the UK
« on: 22 July, 2017, 08:58:17 pm »
Have just joined TOMM Forum and posted on the Steam Engine section. I am restoring a derelict Marshall "Gainsborough" Light Traction Engine, also known as a "Colonial". I believe it spent its working life in Tasmania and it has had a number of UK owners before I got hold of it. There is no serial number and various parts are missing. We have found "136" stamped on the boiler cylinder support bracket and again on the trunk guide. Also "E1947" on the boiler hornplate (a boiler inspection stamp?) and "104" on the cylinder block (maybe there were two engines originally?) The rear springs are stamped "1910", presume this is their date of manufacture.

The engine is a 2 speeder, with no clutch, flat rear strakes and is sprung on the front perch. Does anyone have any information or know of this engine and its history?

Thanks in advance,

Richard Day
