What is it?
« on: 26 December, 2018, 09:45:42 pm »
That usually seems to get people's interest.....

On Saturday, I picked up the pump....thing.....from a retired workmate. (on previous weeks I have picked up two early 30's Bedfords)

He said it's a vacuum pump (I presume from a dairy) and that it came from Dalby. He's had it for years.

It has the general / vague appearance of the Ridd pump in another thread, but has significant differences and no identification of any type that I can find.

Over to the knowledgable ones.....

Jarrod.

I forgot to add that the pulley is approximately 27-1/2" , or 700mm in diameter.

Thanks, Jarrod.

Hello Jarrod
By the size of the flywheel you'd nearly assume it was run by an electric motor. That's a doozy of a flywheel.

What a neat little pump with a huge drive wheel. I like it a lot as it is a 2 piece drive wheel.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to keep looking until I find out a likely brand and vintage.

This would be the pump. Not a lot of help, as G&N were only the distributors. Co-op was their brand. I have named this scan Co-op 31, so I presume the date of the publication from which it came was 1931. My record keeping sometimes leaves a bit to be desired!

Hello Jarrod.
I've been looking into G&N a bit over the years (Thanks for the ad Eric) and it seems this type of vacuum pump was available early in the 1920's and G&N were advertising the 'Eclipse' milking machine from 1939. I'm pretty sure they didn't use the pump you have for the intervening years.
G&N were good at rebadging other peoples products. One manufacturer worth looking at for the maker of your vacuum pump is Paul, Robert's & Parsons PTY LTD Engineers Sydney. They made milk pumps for G&N around the same time.

Cheers Scott
