Lister D
« on: 21 July, 2019, 08:03:42 pm »
Hi,

Can anybody help me with dating my Lister D? The following information is from the plate on the crankcase cover.

Number  1\35899
Spec  28D8HK
H.P.  2   RPM  1100

The engine is completely stripped down and I am waiting for some parts to turn up so I can re-assemble. Looking forward to the first start-up.

Cheers

BigAl

Hello Al
I reckon your little D was made in 1949.
The HK has me thinking. Any pictures?
Try Don Reid at Loganleigh or there's some Lister parts people in the back of TOMM.

Hi Alex & Scott,
According to David Edgington (The Lister Guru)
Your  engine was made in 1949  and the letters D K   refer to it being a kerosene version having a flat top
lower compression piston--also the revs were bumped up to 1100 to still obtain 2HP on the lower grade fuel

Therer was a guy on the Lister Forum recently who had a converted Lister from high to low compression and it developed a vibration. Apparently the piston weighs different to the other and is causing dramas.

Thanks everyone for the info. Interesting that the engine doesn't have a flat top piston as suggested by Don. It is definitely built to run on kerosene as it has a hot box that bolts in between the carby and the muffler. Great to find out that it was built circa 1949. Just a little bit older than me. Ha Ha. I will try and get some photos but, at the moment, there are bits everywhere.

Cheers,

Alex

With a domed top piston it may not be the low compression model any more and that it was replaced from being a flat top.

As promised, I have obtained some photos of my D. Firstly in pieces and then in the stages of re-assembly.
