Case Cross Engine 12 -20
« on: 09 October, 2019, 07:43:26 pm »
Good People,

We have a case 12 -20 at the Serpentine Tractor Museum  ( WA. )

Am working with others to get this one going.  It was restored many years back but has not been started in decades !!

So, we are doing pre-start checks, fuel system clean outs etc,  and will appreciate your assistance
1 - where is the engine oil level found ?   This m/c has no dipstick,  I have located a square head plug on the LH side of the sump and am guessing this might be the "full level"    Could this be it
2 - Is there any info out there regarding positions for throttle and magneto advance / retard at start ?

Thanks

hi,
I have one in running condition not restored.   mine has two taps left side of sump, I presumed these were upper and lower oil levels and this has worked so far.  oil gauge missing on mine, put a tap there instead and open it to show oil flow when running.     mine running with impulse mag off Hercules? engine off sunshine baler. don't have to crank it, only pull it over compression.  have wrong carby, shebler economizer I think it is called? turn fuel on and choke on , three or four turns over compression and it will fire.   if you strong enough to crank it with non impulse magneto I suggest full retard . from memory, I think governor takes care of throttle.

Not as yet,  Will be back at it this Wed.  ( its our weekly work day )
All fuel line gaskets had turned to "powder" so need to get these sorted before trying to fire it up.
Will keep you updated & try & include a photo.

Today's activity
Changed out gaskets and washers in fuel lines
RE-gapped spark plugs
REworked a gasket ( again ) for the carby fuel bowl - persistent leaks - but now seems to be sorted.
Clean Maggy points
Crank
Crank
Crank - and a cough !!

same again
and it roars into life :-)   woohoo

Now to tune-it up as it's running a little rich

Only the canister & metal "hose"
No internals.
