Apparently white metal does not like electrolysis from memory so you would have to hang the piston down into the tub and leave the bearings outside/above the solution.

Hi

Please disregard all the bad comments on electrolysis that were posted on this forum in the past.  I have very successfuly used electrolysis on cast pump parts that have cast white metal bearings, with no ill effects.  I do use soda ash and not washing soda in my bath.  Some parts were in the bath for two days with no ill effects and the pump has done quite a few hours on display since its restoration.

Where do you get the soda ash from please. It would be an interesting exercise to test both different solutions Regards Rudy.

Looking at google soda ash and washing soda are both sodium bicarbonate. Your thoughts please. Rudy

Hi

Any swimming pool supply shop, I get mine from Bunnings, used as a ph buffer in swimming pools. See attached picture of said pump.

Cheers

Very interesting Ian, my comment was based on what I had read on forums in the past.

Hi Cobbabog

Both the shafts on that pump run on white metal bearings.  I got the good oil from our friend Scotty.
