Heritage Oil
« on: 27 March, 2020, 03:39:13 pm »
Hello all,
I am new to the forum.
I am rebuilding a 4hp Buzzacott.
Does anyone know where I can buy the correct oil?
I believe it si heritage oil by Penrite.
Unfortunately, my local suppliers don't have stock and to order it I have to buy 4 x 5ltr containers.
I only need one.
I am located north side of Brisbane near Pine rivers park.
Thanks Simon

I would use a straight SAE30 oil not a mineral oil.
Welcome to the forum as well!

Cobba -Why not a mineral oil ? If so what synthetic would you recommend ??

Hi Simon , welcome to the forum.
I use Penrite shelesley medium on the old engines as I use the same Oil in the vintage cars as well, so saves buying a different bottle for the engines. Penrite does make specific traditional  oils for early engines  but stockists are hard to find.

A mineral straight 30 (or heavier )would be fine too - such as Briggs oil or similar !!!!

I doubt these old engines would even care as long as it was slippery !!!

PS - I am not far away up in the South Burnett area !!!

Cheers Justin

The Penrite heritage oils are a good product. I only use mono-grade mineral oil in my engines. I have tried synthetic oils but I end up with black sh&t everywhere.

Hi Simon,
Welcome. Its been a long while since I've been on here, but this Self Isolation thing has me looking at all sorts of things to keep me occupied. The oils mentioned above are all superior stuff, and I use Penrite Shelsey oils (Light, Medium & Heavy) in all my vintage cars.
Even the cheapest of oils from your supermarket will far exceed the specifications recommended at the time of manufacture of your Buzzacott. Spending your money on these "better" oils is, in my opinion, a waste.

I ordered some Penrite Heritage oil from Repco online and it arrived on my doorstep in a couple of days. Another option if your local shop doesn't have it in stock.

Hi All
Be very careful what oil you use particularly in total loss systems (oilers, wick feed etc ) most engine oils are designed to be pressure fed and the oil film breaks down quickly. Many years ago I forgot to take my oil to a rally I went to the local supermarket and bought 4 liters of the lowest grade motor oil to use in my Austral. After about an hour of running I notice a yellow (brass) mark on the crank guard. I use vacuum pump oil as this oil is formulated to use in machines that run cast iron to cast iron. I have never had any problems.
