McDonald Imperial Super Diesel Type SE
« on: 17 April, 2020, 09:21:59 am »
Hi all,
My grandad and I have been doing up a trolley and wheels for one of these over the past couple of days and would like to know the year the machine is from. S/N 5151SE. We'd also like to get our hands in a manual if anyone has one. If you can help, message me.
Thanks,
Sam

G'Day samshep03,
As you may have seen I am doing one the same at the moment. There is no workshop manual for these engines but Plough Book Sales do have an Instruction Book for them which gives you the proper start up proceedure maintenance and how to adjust the valves and linkages and the pre start up proceedure plus other items of insterest. The last 4 pages or so are is a list of the parts and the numbers for the engine but no pictures to cross reference to.
My engine is 3970 I think and is a 1945 made model.
Ray Gillet runs the registry for McDonald engines. Send a self addressed DL size envelope to him and he will send you a heap of information. To Ray Gillet 4 Hakea Dr, Invermay. VIC. 3352.

After cleaning more of my one up I already knew that the engine serial number was stamped into the engine on the top corner above the dip stick in this case mine is 3970 but at the opposite end stamped into the hopper behind the head again on the radius is T 31-3 (31 March). I do not know for certain what these mean but it is a fair guess that it is the day/month but no clue as to the letter "T".  "T" might be 1945 but that is only a guess.
