Simplex Marine Engine
« on: 06 January, 2021, 10:24:09 pm »
I have an inboard 5hp Simplex Marine Engine, and was wondering if anyone knows how to date it at least to an approximate year/decade of manufacture. I'm discovering that insurance companies won't insure the boat it is in without a year of manufacture.
It is a 5hp, single cylinder 4 stroke Marine Engine, with forwards/neutral/reverse made by Simplex in Sydney, sometime between 1937 and 1965 I have contacted the manufacturers now known as Gearco in Sydney, however they keep no tracing or records to match engine numbers to production times. The engine plate states the hp and engine number and manufacturer, but no other information. Nor have a found a year of manufacture stamped anywhere on the engine.

Any helpful suggestions or advice?

Not too sure if Trove.com could help you out by looking through the pages there under Simplex Engines and comparing any pictures or specs.
