Tractor post auger identification?
« on: 08 January, 2021, 06:07:59 pm »
Hi everyone i have this PTO driven post hole auger that i am currently putting some bearings and seals in. i am just wondering if anyone could help with identifying who made it? I would say it is fairly old as it has imperial american timken taper roller bearings and imperial seals. it has a bevel gear drive. the makers label is to faded to read but I can make out that it starts with a W.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

With the specs you have mentioned it could still be an Aussie made unit pre mid 1960's. Timken and imperial sizes were what was used back then.

First, a little grumble. I often don't answer posters that won't even give their first name, as I like to think that I am dealing with a real person.

Here is your post hole digger.

Hi there!!!  Your post hole digger is indeed a Napier  made in Dalby Qld/  When I had my FIAT 513r  the local (Dubbo)  dealer was selling them & if I remember correctly may even have been sticking a FIAT logo on!  They were an extremely heavy well built unit & once I had modified the cutters worked really well  This would have been circa 1966-1970  Cheers--Don
