Is it a hole for the correct oil level maybe? Then must have some way of blocking it off. Have you used a good light to check for a thread or maybe it had a thread and is now stripped. Dont think it would have had a rubber bung in there being the age of the tractor.

Thanks for the replies,  The hole is near the bottom ,so It cant be for a level,  the access for the hole is in a recess and the hole size is 9/16" of a inch the thickness of the metal around the hole is quite thin and does not have a thread. Hopefully there is someone out there with a Farmall A that may be able to assist. Regards Rudy

Hi the hole turns out to be a tell tale to let you know if the seals are leaking. Does anybody know where we can obtain new brake bands as the ones on it are down to the rivets
Thanks Rudy.

Hi Rudy, I take things like that to the local brake shop and they bond new material on to them and economically too. Have a look for a local brake shop up your way that can either supply the lining and you can rrrrivet them, get them to bond new lining on or look online at the tractor supply shops as they may have the kits to do the job. Trying to think of the trctor supply shop near you at Ipswich I think that I have bought stuff from, great to deal with.

tried 3 brake places and the cost of relining is dearer than buying a complete replacement set . Cost of relining average cost $120 per side =$ 240. Cost of complete new band and liners and push rods $87 per side plus postage just under $200. Not sure how that works. Rudy
